Blue-chip MBAs regain lost ground
They were the lost generation of business school graduates, high-flyers whose hopes of cashing in on blue-chip MBAs were scuppered by an economic downturn exacerbated by the September 11 terrorist attacks.
But according to MBA 2005, the Financial Times annual ranking of full-time global MBA programmes, the class of 2001 has weathered the tough climate that initially saw its members struggle to find jobs. They now command salaries nudging $150,000. The finding demonstrates the enduring value of a qualification from the elite cadre of top international business schools.
At the core of the FT rankings is a survey of the salaries MBA graduates are earning three years after graduation. And it shows that someone who attended one of the top 10 US business schools in 2001 now makes, on average, $144,492. The highest earners are alumni from Harvard Business School, which this year re-asserted its traditional dominance to take the top slot for the first time since 2000. It shares that distinction with the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton school. Two of the top 10 schools in the premier league are from Europe: London Business School and Insead, which has campuses in France and Singapore. This year LBS moved one place ahead of the University of Chicago graduate school of business.
The rivalry between the two institutions will intensify today when Chicago announces that in August it is moving its European campus from Barcelona to the City of London, putting it in direct competition with LBS. The competition in this year's ranking was especially fierce, with nearly 150 schools competing for the 100 places. Overall 58 of the top 100 schools are from the US, 14 from the UK, seven from Canada and three each from France, Spain and China. MBA 2005 rankings, Separate section
(University of Chicago Graduate School of Business)之前。
