all noune have a gender
you must lean the gender of every new noun meet - it's not onlu animate that have gender. the words आशा asha "hope", अलमारी almari "cupboard ,  and तस्वीर "picture "are all feminine,while कमरा lamra"room",माकन makan "house"and आदिमी admi "man"are all masculine.Try leaening muns with an appropriate adjective:
   अलमारी  तस्वीर  कमरा  माकन आदमी

बड़ा कमरा बार आदमी.
bada kamra, bara admi big room, big man.
बड़ी तस्वीर ,बड़ी किताब .
badi tasvir, badi kitab big picture, big book.
बड़ा कुट्टी ,छोटी बिल्ली .
bada kutti, choti billi big dog, small cat

Some adjectives never change
Only those adjectives that end -a in the masculine change to -i in the feminine. Other adjectives never change, and so are called 'invariable';ठीक thik 'OK' is a good example.

यह किताब ठीक है .
yah kitab thik hai. This book is OK.
यह कमरा ठीक है .
yah kamra thik hai. This room is OK.
मनोज तजिक है .
Manoj thik hai. Manoj is OK.

A few adjectives ending in -a are invariable despite this ending.Examples are जिंदा  zinda 'alive' and शादा-शुदी shadi-shuda'married'. A few adjectives ending in -I, such as  खली  'vacant, empty, free',are also invariable.

क्या बिल्ली जिंदा है ?
kya billi zinda hai? Is the cat alive?
गीता शादी-शुदा है .
Gita shadi-shuda hai. Geeta is married.
यह कमरा खली है .
yah kamra khali hai. This room is free.
