LESSON 12 WELL, THIS IS A SURPRISE.
John: Good morning. This is "Hello America" and I'm John P. Banks.
In the news, the President is in Europe. The weather for today is clear and cool.
You don't need your umbrella or raincoat. And it's a beautiful day for sailing.
And now "The Weekend Report" with Susan Webster and Jake Seltzer. Hello Susan. Hello. Jake.
Susan: Hello, John. We're sailing today at the Stamford Marina. There's a big race out here.
Jake: Yes. There are races all weekend.
John: Jake, can you sail?
Jake: I can't sail very well.
Susan: It's a wonderful day, John.
John: You look great together.
Susan: Thank you. I love this sport.
John: First a commercial. Then back to Jake and Susan.
Chris: How are you doing, Jake?
Jake: Terrible.
Susan: Why?
Jake: Because I want to get out.
Susan: You should relax.
Jake: I can't relax. I don't like this.
Chris: I'm sorry you aren't happy.
Jake: The boat is rocking. I want to get out.
Susan: You can't.
Chris: Jake, you can't get out now. You have to stay there.
Jake: I want to get out. The boat is rocking I don't like it. I'm getting out.
Chris: After the show. Jake.
Carol: You have to stay there now, Jake. Three, two, one. Camera. You're on the air.
Jake: Here we are again.
Carol: I love this spot, don't you, Jake?
Jake: Well, of course, Susan. I have a great teacher.
Susan: We're at the Stamford Marina.
I'd like to introduce you to Jake's sailing teacher, Chris Bloom. Chris, can you tell us about the races?
Chris: We have races here every weekend in the summer. This weekend is the big race of the year.
Susan: Can people watch?
Chris: Yes. But you have to have your own boat or get here before 10: 00a. m. At 10: 00, the boats leave the dock.
Susan: How much is a lesson?
Chris: A lesson costs fifty dollars.
Susan: How long is a lesson?
Chris: An hour.
Susan: Is it good idea to have an appointment?
Chris: You have to have an appointment. We're very busy.
Susan: Thank you, Chris. Coming up: some great racing from Stamford Marina.
Jake: Stay tuned.
Carol: Linda says you look great together. She wants you to work together more often.
Jake: Can I get out now?
Susan: Jake, you're amazing!
Carol: Chris, can you come with me?
We need some information before the race tomorrow.
Chris: Sure. Susan, can you help Jake?
Susan: OK.
Susan: I like to sail, don't you?
Jake: Just help me get out. . . I'm dizzy.
Susan: I'm sorry I wasn't nice to you. You're not so bad.
Jake: Gee, thanks.
Susan: You look good when you're seasick.
Jake: Thanks.
Susan: I want to be friends.
Jake: I want to be friends too.
Susan: Just friends.
Jake: That's all I want, Susan. We work together.
Susan: OK, then.
Jake: OK.
Carol: Well, this is a surprise.
Jake: Yes, it's amazing. Anything can happen on "The WEFL Weekend Report"!
