Word order

Look very closely at the difference between these two sentences:
मेज़ पर पंखा है .
mez par pankha hai. There's a fan on the table.
पंखा मेज़ पर है .
pankha mez par hai. The fan is on the table.

You'll see that the main piece of new information comes just befor the verb. Another way of looking at these sentences is to see them the answers to particular questions, with the new information simple slotting into the space that had been occupied by the question woords.

मेज़ पर क्या है ?
mez par kya hai? What is on the table?
मेज़ पर पंखा है .
mez par pankha hai. There's a fan on the table.

पंखा कहाँ  है .
pankha kaha hai? Where is the fan?
पंखा मेज़ पर है .
pankha mez par hai. The'fan is on the table.

Where's the cat?

Answer the questions about the picture:
१ बिल्ली कहाँ है ?
billi kahan hai?
२ कुत्ता कहाँ है ?
kutta kahan hai?
३ तस्वीर में कितने tasvir mein kitni kursiyan hain?

४ तस्वीर में कितने कुर्सियां है ?

One postposition that you'll often need is
के पास   ke pas.
We'll mean it more fully later, but we need it now. Its first meaning is 'near':

हमारी दुकान स्टेशन के पास है .
hamari dukan stesan ke pas hai. Our shop is near the station.

But के पास ke pas can also indicate ownership of goods and cha (or even time) - it's used in the meaning of 'to have':

मनोज के पास नया रेडियो है .
Manoj ke pas nayia rediyo hai. Manoj has a new radio.
राम के पास है नै किताबें हैं .
Ram ke pas kai nai kitiibe hai. Ram has several new books.
मीना के पास कुछ नए कपरे हैं .
mina ke pas kuch nae kapde hai. Meena has some new cloth
