1 Possession and 'to have'

You already know that
मेरा mera
means 'my, mine',
आपके   ap
means 'your, yours',
उसका  uska
means 'his, her/hers, its', and
ममरा hamara
means 'our, ours'.
So much for showing possession with pronouns;now we need to see how possession works with names nouns, as in 'Ram's friend' or 'my son's name'.

The phrase
"राम का कुत्ता Rana ka kutta
means 'Ram's dog';
मीना का कुत्ता  Mina ka kutta
means 'Meena's dog'. So the little word
का  ka
works like the apostrophe 's' in English. Some more examples

मनोज का दोस्त Manoj ka dost  Manoj's friend
गीता का पति Gita ka pati Geeta's husband
ताजु का बेटा Raja ka beta Raju's son
