Wharton No?1 in FT MBA rankings” trumpets a news headline on he home page of the Wharton Club of the United Kingdom website. It is not a message which is not greeted with such enthusiasm in Philadelphia, the home of the Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania.

For the past year, both Wharton and Harvard Business School have been playing a cat-and-mouse game with media organisationsbodies whichthat run business school rankings. There is no such thing as a number one business school, they say, and therefore rankings are therefore flawed.
