Chinese movie star Liu Xiaoqing's firm fined 7.1 mln yuan for tax evasion
Beijing Xiaoqing Culture Art Co Ltd, a company owned by renowned Chinese movie star Liu Xiaoqing, has been fined 7.1 mln yuan for tax evasion by a local court in Beijing's Chaoyang district, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
The news agency said Jing Jun, the company's general manager in charge of the firm's accounts between September 1996 and 2001, was sentenced to three years in jail by the court.
The culture and art company evaded 6.68 mln yuan in taxes between 1996 and 2001, Xinhua said.
The company also failed to settle 418,574 yuan in individual income taxes between 1997 and 2000 for two television drama series.
According to the court, the company evaded 30 pct of its total tax payment annually from 1996 to 2001.
Liu Xiaoqing, who was the company's chairwoman, was released on bail last August after one year in prison on tax evasion charges. She is not charged in the present case.
In December 2002, Liu was accused of evading 14.583 mln yuan in taxes in various Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Liu is a popular film star and acted in well-known movies in the late 1970s and 1980s, including Hibiscus Town and Xiao Hua.

中国影星刘晓庆所办公司偷税被罚710万
据新华社报道, 北京市朝阳区人民法院昨天对影星刘晓庆所开办的北京晓庆文化艺术有限责任公司偷税案作出一审判决, 以偷税罪判处北京晓庆文化艺术有限公司罚金人民币710万元, 以偷税罪判处晓庆文化艺术公司总经理靖军有期徒刑3年。
该社报道, 经法院审理查明, 北京晓庆文化艺术有限责任公司作为纳税义务人, 於96年至01年期间, 违反税收征管规定, 偷逃各种税款共计人民币668万元。被告人靖军於96年9月至01年在被告单位任总经理的职务, 主管财务工作, 对任职期间单位实施的偷税行为负有直接责任。
作为代扣代缴义务人, 北京晓庆文化艺术有限责任公司在97年、98年、2000年拍摄电视连续剧《逃之恋》、《皇嫂田桂花》过程中, 将已代扣的演职人员个人所得税共计人民币41.9万元隐瞒, 不予代为缴纳。
此前北京、上海和深圳市地税务机关调查发现, 刘晓庆及其所办的2家公司共偷逃税款1,458.3万元。北京市拍卖行将中国影视明星刘晓庆的房产进行公开拍卖, 拍卖成交额661.1万元人民币(合79.64万美元), 拍卖所得将全部用於抵缴刘晓庆所办公司偷逃的税款。
