Lesson 1 I'm so tired of this whole thing

    SCENE ONE: THE NATURE CENTER
Steven:    I got here as fast as I could. I'm very upset about this investigatioin.
Modine:    I'm certain of that.
Steven:    Well.
Modine:    I asked you to meet me here because I was concerned about meeting in your office.
Steven:    Why would you be concerned about that?
Modine:    Your office might be bugged. You can't be too careful about anything when you're dealing with criminals.
Steven:    I'm so tired of this whole thing. I don't want to worry about this anymore. I don't want to think about criminals or sebotage. I just want to do my job. I just want to produce a news show.
Modine:    I can see how you feel. You are probably disappointed in the investigation.
Steven:    Yes, I am. I'm surprised at how long this is taking. I think you're a little slow at solving this case, Ray.
Modine:    No, don't be angry at me. These investigations are very delicate.
Steven:    Ray, tell me what you know.
Modine:    I'll give it to you in two words.
Steven:    Yeah? yeah? What?
Modine:    Leather glove…
Steven:    Leather glove?
Modine:    That is. Leather glove.
Steven:    Did you call me all the way out here to say the words "leather glove" to me?
Modine:    Yes.The leather glove is the key to the case. You seem disappointed.
Steven:    Disappointed? Are you kidding? Wait until I tell Peter Case I've been spending money to pay a detective and all he could come up with was the words leather glove. He's not going be happy about this, Ray.
Modine:    Be patient with me, Steven. There's something I didn't tell you. You'll going to be interested in this.
Steven:    What?
Modine:    The leather gloves are the missing link. First, Roger Ward has one; then Jake saw Thomas Ames with one exactly like it. Finally, one of the gloves was on the tape that Chris made of Terry.
Steven:    Does Thomas Ames know Roger Ward? What about Terry?
Modine:    Terry may be involved.
Steven:    No! He's so kind and friendly to everyone. Are you sure about Terry?
Modine:    You are not always the best judge of Character, Steven. Sometimes you can miss some important clues. That's why you hired me.
Steven:    Where were we going?
Modine:    To my car. It's parted at a meter. I'm worried about getting another ticket. Look, isn't that Terry Smithers?
Steven:    Where?
Modine:    Next to my car, he doesn't see us.
Steven:    He's pacing back and forth. He seems nervous about something.
Modine:    Maybe  he's afraid being seen here. I'll call you later, Steven.

Lesson 2 Right now I'm thinking about making my plans

    SCENE ONE: THE OFFICE
Steven:    Hi, Chris. I'm on the phone with my son.
Chris:    Oh, yes.
Steven:    He's going to be 6 months this week. Please sit down. This will only takes a second...Hello, big guy... Are you excited about  talking to Daddy on the telephone? ...Bye bye. Daddy loves you... I think he thinks I live inside the telephone.
Chris:    You really love being a dad, don't you?
Steven:    It's great, but what a responsibility. I'm always worried about not spending enough time with him.
Chris:    I wouldn't be concerned about not spending enough time with them. Quality is more important than quantity.
Steven:    I know, I know. But I believe in having both quality and quantity time with my family. Unfortunaly it doesn't always work out that way. When I'm not working, I'm thinking I should be working. When I'm working, I'm worried about not being with Peter. Speaking of quality time, what can I do for you?
Chris:    I just want you to know, how much I've enjoyed working here. And I wanted to talk about the future.
Steven:    We've enjoyed having you here. You're doing a good job.
Chris:    Thanks.I'm interested in staying in WEFL, but I need to talk to you about the future.
Steven:    I understand.
Chris:    Right now, I'm thinking about making my plans. I can't be an assistant all my life. I'm hoping to become a reporter. Do you think there may be a spot for me?
Steven:    To be honest, Chris. I'm not sure. I'm not making any promises about summer positions now. I expect to know more towards the end of this week.
Chris:    Ok. But I just want you to know I'm really excited about staying here.
Steven:    Thank you for telling me. A lot of things are up in the air here right now.
Chris:    I understand. Just let me know what you decided to do... Isn't your son darling?
Steven:    He is kind of cut, isn't he?

    SCENE TWO: THE STUDIO
Modine:    Do you get nervous about talking to millions of people every night?
Jake:    Do you get nervous about annoying people everyday?
Modine:    What do you mean annoying? Do you think everyone finds me annoy? Chris, for instance?
Jake:    What does Chris have to do with any of this?
Modine:    I was interested in hearing about Chris's tapes.
Jake:    We've spent a lot of time watching those tapes, and I think there were some parts you may find helpful.
Modine:    Good. Now we're getting somewhere.
Jake:    I'd like to help you out, Ray… Believe me, I'm tired of having you around here.
Modine:    I'll ignore that comment, Jake. Here's the interesting news. I'm sure that your friend, Roger Ward, is the one who has been sabotaging the station.
Jake:    Roger.
Modine:    I don't have absolute proof. I don't even know how he's been doing it. But I plan to find out. And I need you to help me find out.
Jake:    Ok. I guess I suspected it all along. But I'm still surprised to hear that it's definitely Roger.
Modine:    He's in the studio now. I want you to talk to him…

    Lesson 3 I don't know what you're talking about.

    SCENE ONE: THE STUDIO
Jake:    Hello, Roger.
Roger:    Jake. What are you doing here? How's the story coming? I think your viewers will like it.
Jake:    So do I... I'm surprised at you, Roger.
Roger:    What do you mean?
Jake:    I don't get it.  You are always good whatever you did. Why would you ruin a good career to go to work for Thomas Ames?
Roger:    I don't know what you're talking about.
Jake:    Don't pretend to be surprised what I'm saying, Roger. I know that you're working for Ames. I know that he's been paying you to sabotage the WEFL. What I'm interested in is why?
Roger:    I'm disappointed in you, Jake. You're so slow at figuring this out. What took you so long?
Jake:    I thought you were my friend.
Roger:    You're never good at judging who your friends really were.
Jake:    I believed in you... When we were in college and no one will give you chance, I did. I helped you. I cared. Why would you do this to me?
Roger:    I didn't mean to hurt anyone, Jake.
Jake:    So it was you.
Roger:    Yeah. It was me. The travel tape. The singing lesson. All the technical difficulties of the statioin were my fault.
Jake:    But why?
Roger:    Money. I needed money. But it wasn't supposed to be like this, Jake. It went too far.
Jake:    Money?
Roger:    Yes. I left the big television networks and started my own business. I was lucky at getting started. I got a lot of work. But then the networks hired new people and my business began to decline. I put everything I owned into that business, Jake. Everything. I was in debt. Then I met Thomas Ames. He helped me. He invested in my business. he loaned money to me. He told me about WEFL and helped me get some work here. But then, he asked me to arrange some technical difficulties at WEFL. I thought it was nothing. It seemed funny at first, like a big joke. Then Ames threatened me. He was going to take over my business unless I helped . He wanted me to lower WEFL's rating so Peter Case would have to sell the station. At that time, I was worried about the money I owed him. I was afraid of Ames... So I did it. To tell you the truth, Jake. I'm glad it's over. It was like a nightmare.

    SCENE TWO: THE OFFICE
Steven:    I'm shoked at how quickly the time is gone by, it feels like just yesterday that Peter was born. He's six months old already and he's becoming a real person. Now that Raymond Modine is close to solving this mystery, I'm thrilled at the chance to spend more time at home. I havn't been spending enough time with Peter. I should buy him a present... But which one? ...I know who can help.

SCENE THREE: THE OFFICE, LATER THE SAME DAY
Rita:    Are you interested in buying a clothes or a toy for Peter?
Steven:    I don't know. He's only six months old. What do you think?
Rita:    I don't think he's going to notice what you buy him. I think you'are too concerned about it. Why don't you buy your wife something?
Steven:    It's not her birthday.
Rita:    Yeah, but I think she'd really like a gift. She'd probably be excited about it whatever it was. You know, your wife needs as much attention as your baby.
Steven:    You're right. I'm a little bit embarassed about this, Rita. Thanks for the advice.
Rita:    With all the things we've been through together? Don't be silly.
Steven:    Look at these earrings. How about these for Anne? Do you think she'd like another pair of earrings?
Rita:    I think she'd love the ear rings. Who wouldn't?
Steven:    Yeah. I'm going to order them.

Lesson 4  Mike, Help me out.

    SCENE ONE: THE CONTROL ROOM
Modine:    I discovered Roger did it. But I didn't know how.
Mike:    I discovered it this morning. So I called you right away.
Modine:    Mike. Help me out. I can't understand the technology, and I can't take a course.
Mike:    Tell me what you don't understand so that I can explain it better.
Modine:    Why don't you just begin all over again? I'd like to know how you discovered the switch and how you knew that it was the reason for all of the trouble at WEFL?
Mike:    Ok. This morning, I was working in here, something was bothering me, but I didn't know what it was.
Modine:    You didn't know what it was, but you knew that somthing in this room was different.
Mike:    Yeah. I began to look around the room. I looked on the board, and I started the monitors. I looked everywhere, but I couldn't find anything.
Modine:    You were frustrated, so you went to get a cup of coffee.
Mike:    Yeah. How did you know? I went to get some coffee and a donut. When I came back in the room, I thought I was going to have to look all over the place, but I didn't. It just struck me as soon as I came back in.
Modine:    What?
Mike:    I looked at the toggle switch, and I remembered. It was a new.
Modine:    A new toggle switch solved the mystery. Amazing.
Mike:    I didn't realize right away that it was the answer to our problems, but I knew that it didn't belong here.
Modine:    There are hundreds of buttons here, Mike. How did you know that one little switch was different?
Mike:    I've been a cameraman and I've also had experience in the control room. I know this board like the back of my hand, so I knew something was different.
Modine:    Now tell me again, so that I can really understand. Exactly what does the switch do?
Mike:    All right. Here's an interesting part. Watch the monitors... This one shows what's on play back machine A in the control room. This one shows play back machine B in the editing room. This monitor shows what goes out over the air.
Modine:    Let me see if I understand this, Mike. If I wanted to put a tape about the President out on the air, I would put it on play back machine A which is in the control room.
Mike:    Right.
Modine:    If wanted to edit a tape about the Nature Center, I would work on play back machine B. That's in the editing room.
Mike:    Exactly.
Modine:    OK. That's clear. But I still don't understand what this switch does.
Mike:    I had to explain the first part so that you would be able to understand this part.
Modine:    I understand.
Mike:    This switch determines which tape goes out over the air. If it's in position A, the tape about the President from playback machine A will go out over the air. If it is in position B, the tape in playback machine B, in the editing room, will go out over the air instead.
Modine:    Roger ward came in here, and he moved the toggle switch to position B. That means the tape in editing room went out over the air.
Mike:    That's true. But that's not the whole story. Roger is clever. And he also understands how these machines work.
Modine:    He knew that would have been too simple.
Mike:    We would have noticed, and we could have stopped this a long time ago. Roger was more clever than that. But he wasn't clever enough.
Modine:    Criminals are never clever enough, Mike.
Mike:    Roger is familiar with the machines. So, he knew how to rewire the board.
Modine:    So that's what he did!
Mike:    Yes.Roger rewire the toggle switch so that he could control them from the editing room.
Modine:    Brilliant!
Mike:    Roger was able to put on another tap and he could do it when no one was looking.
Modine:    Incredible!
Mike:    Detective, what do you think about ?
Modine:    Packing tickets, Mike. I'm thinking about packing tickets.

LESSON 5 I always thought you'd be a devoted father.

    SCENE ONE: THE EDITING ROOM
Chris:    I can't believe I'm going to interview Thomas Ames. I'm nervous about this even though I've practiced. I'm not sure why. I'm nervous because I want to do a good job. I'm also nervous because Thomas Ames is so wealthy and important. No, I don't care about his wealth. I'm nervous because this is my big chance to be a reporter in WEFL. Even though I've done a good job in assistant Steven may not hire me. The ratings are down and WEFL doesn't have much money. Even though the rating are down, Steven might hire me if I do a good interview... Mike was sure surprised when I was chosen to do this interview. He said that this was Jake's big story. But I got the story because Ames won't talk to Jake. Although Jake is a better interviewer than I am, I can probably get Ames to talk to me more openly than Jake can. I keep telling myself I have nothing to worry about. Right?

    SCENE TWO: THE OFFICE
Steven:    The photographer is taking pictures of Peter today because he's six months old. The photagrapher will be there at three o'clock, and then we're having a little party afterward. Because I've been busy at work, I havn't been able to spend much time with Peter. He's growing so quickly, and I'm never there. I missed the first time he crawled, and the first time him sat up. I don't want to miss anything else. Although I want to be with my son, I can't leave until Chris return the interview, I've got to know what Thomas Ames up to.

SCENE THREE: THE OFFICE, LATER THE SAME DAY
OK... Daddy will be home later... I love you... Sorry, I was just talking to Peter.
Steven:    I always thought you'd be a devoted father.
Steven:    You never told me that being a parent could be so, I don't know, rewarding, exciting.
Mike:    Yeah, it can also be pretty frustrating. Even though I love kids, they can make me crazy sometimes. Do you know what I mean?... No. Since Peter is just a little baby now, you don't understand yet. When he gets older, it's going to be a lot tougher. It's rewarding and it's wonderful, but it's never easy.
Steven:    Maybe you're right, Mike. I spoke to Ray and he told me about your discovery. Even though I know that Roger did it and how it did, I still feel that the mystery hasn't been solved.
Mike:    I think you feel uncomfortable because Thomas Ames is still walking free.
Steven:    The good news is that Roger agreed to testify against Thomas Ames in court.
Mike:    I came to remind you that we would going to go fishing this weekend.
Steven:    Thanks, Mike. You know, I'd really like to go.
Mike:    Steven, I think you need to go because you're exhausted. You need to get away for a while.
Steven:    I can't go fishing with you this time because I need to spend sometime with Peter. Take me on the next trip.
Mike:    I will. I'm not going to give up. I'm going to keep asking until you finally go. You need a rest, Steven win.

Lesson 6 Do you care about anything except making more money for yourself?

    SCENE ONE: THE EDITING ROOM
Chris:    Mr. Ames, do you think your buildings will ruin the eighteenth century feeling of the Nature Center?
Ames:    Although the Nature Center has an eighteenth-century flavour, we aren't life in the eighteen century.
Chris:    Can't you try to design your buildings to fit in with the Nature Center?
Ames:    Although you may feel that my buildings alter the feels of the Nature Center, many people may think they enhance it.
Chris:    I doubt that, Mr. Ames. What about the pollution? Do you think your chemicals will pollute the water and the land?
Ames:    I don't know where you get your information. All the chemicals we use are approved by the local government.
Chris:    You never checked with the local government, Mr. Ames. Do you care about anything except making more money for yourself?

Jake:    Uh-oh. That's the wrong question to ask Thomas Ames.
Chris:    Why? Even though Ames is being evasive, you don't think I should ask tough questions?
Jake:    That's the problem. Even though I know better, I would have asked those questions.
Chris:    And that would have scared him away?
Jake:    Yes. Since I hate the man, I would have scared him with tough questions.
Chris:    Because you would have scared him away, you sent me.
Jake:    You asked tough questions anyway, so we don't have a good interview.
Chris:    Well, I didn't like him either. But watch. Even though I was tough on Ames, he answered the questions anyway. He lost his temper and made mistakes, so we have a good interview. Watch.

Chris:    Do you care about anything except making more money for yourself?
Ames:    I'm tired of you reporters and your stupid questions. It's my land and I'll do whatever I want to with it. I'm not going to change just because of a little pollution. Now get out!
Chris:    Do you care about the animals of the Nature Center?
Ames:    I hate animals!…Get out, Miss Bloom!

Jake:    Wow! You weren't kidding. He really got hot under the collar. How did you have the courage to ask that last question?
Chris:    Even though I don't sound scared on the tape, I was terrified. I was also very angry with Thomas Ames.
Jake:    Let's watch it again. We'll decide how to edit the story.

Lesson 7 Terry is the kind of person who saves everything

    SCENE ONE: THE NATURE CENTER
Steven:    I don't think of you as a man who likes to feed ducks.
Modine:    That's me. I like cars that are fast. I like women who are beautiful. And here's the interest part. I am the kind of people who likes to feed ducks.
Steven:    I'll never figure you out, Ray.
Steven:    Why are we meeting here instead of my office? We know who was sebotaging the station.
Modine:    The sun is out, and the air is crisp. It's a day that comes only once a year. You are the kind of person who wouldn't take adventage of a beautiful day. That's why I wanted to meet here.
Steven:    Thanks, I appreciate your concern for me, but I have a lot of work to do.
Modine:    So do I. So do I. Well, I guess we wrapped this case out.
Steven:    Wait a minute. I know it was Roger who was sebotaging the station, but you never told me how you figure it out. Was it the glove has given him way? I thought you thought that it was Terry who did it.
Modine:    Acutually, it's Terry who helped me figure out the part about the gloves. It was Mike who discovered how Roger did it. Jake is the one who got Roger to confess.
Steven:    So what did we pay you for?
Modine:    You always had a remarkable sense of humor.
Steven:    How did you figure out that it wasn't Terry who did it?
Modine:    Remember the day I found him standing by my car in the parking lot at the Nature Center? He heard that I thought he was one who might be guilty, so he wanted to clear things up.
Steven:    What did he say that made you realize it wasn't him?
Modine:    There wasn't anything that he said. It was something Chris said. Chris discovered the glove that Roger threw in the garbage, She noticed it matched the one which Jake saw in Ames' office. Chris also saw the same glove in Terry's interview.
Steven:    But Terry didn't do it.
Modine:    No. Terry is the kind of person who saves everything. Do you know he saves newspapers after he's read them? He can't throw anything away.
Steven:    So Terry kept the glove.
Modine:    Exactly. He wouldn't waste a perfectly good glove.
Steven:    What about Ames? Roger was the one who did the dirty work. It was Thomas Ames who gave the orders.
Modine:    Ames is one of those people who craves power. He wants to own property which will give him more power.
Steven:    Why didn't he just buy the WEFL? He didn't have to sebotage it.
Modine:    Ames has been trying to buy the station. Peter Case wouldn't sell it to him. If he could make the ratings go down, then Peter would have to sell it or go bankrupt.
Steven:    If Jake and Chris hadn't done the story on the Nature Center, we never would have known.
Modine:    Well, I would have caught him, eventually.
Steven:    So, Ray...What will we do now? Now the case is over?
Modine:    What time is it?
Steven:    three o'clock.
Modine:    I'm going to go for a drive? Then I'm going to invite Chris to dinner.
Steven:    That's not what I meant.
Modine:    What did you mean?
Steven:    I mean, now this case is over, what do you going to do next?
Modine:    I'm going to get into my car.
Steven:    Oh. Never mind.
Modine:    I'm thinking of taking Chris to an Italian Restaurant...Do you think she'll like that? Do you know a restaurant that serves great pizza?

Lesson 8 I have something to tell you that will cheer you up.

    SCENE ONE: THE MAKEUP ROOM
Terry:    It's really hard for you to be leaving WEFL, isn't it?
Rita:    Yes, it is. It's harder than I realliazed. So many things here bring back so many memories. I just packed up the brush which I used on my first job.
Terry:    You still have the brush that you used on your first job?
Rita:    I'm one of those people who saves everything. I still have the stub from the first paycheck I earned in 1959. I have pictures of the famous people who I made up.
Terry:    That's amazing. I save everything that I can. I can't stand throwing anything away.
Rita:    Like Roger's glove?
Terry:    Uh, I guess you heard about that.
Rita:    Of course. Look at this. I was given this vase by a man who I made up for an interview.
Terry:    Who was that?
Rita:    It was just somebody.
Terry:    Is it somebody who I should know about?
Rita:    It's not anyone whom you should be jealous of.
Terry:    What's in this box?
Rita:    It's a dress which Deborah Hall wore in one of our productions.
Terry:    What do you want me to do with this book?
Rita:    Let me see that…Will you look at this!
Terry:    What is it?
Rita:    This is a diary which is full of secrets about the people at WEFL.
Terry:    Let me see.
Rita:    No way.
Terry:    Oh, come on. I'm curious now.
Rita:    If I did that, there are some people who would kill me.
Terry:    I'm not interested in the people who you wrote about. I'm interested in the thoughts that you had when you were younger.
Rita:    Here are something that I wrote. It's kind of funny.
Terry:    Read it.
Rita:    March 19th, 1962. This isn't a job which I'm going to have for a long time. I like the people whom I make up. I like the people whom I work with. But that isn't everything. I'd like a job where I can meet famous people. I want a job where there's lots of excitement. This job is fun for now, but I don't know whom I'm going to be when I grow up.
Terry:    Well. Nothing's changed.
Rita:    I can't believe that I wrote that so long ago.
Terry:    Don't look so sad.
Rita:    Why not?
Terry:    I have something to tell you that will cheer you up.
Rita:    What is it?
Terry:    I want to tell you what I was doing in the editing room. Remember all those times that you asked me about it?
Rita:    At last!
Terry:    All the time you thought I was involved in the mystery. I was working in the editing room on something for you.
Rita:    I never thought you were involved in the mystery.
Terry:    Oh, yes. You did.
Rita:    Only for a second. You were working on something for me?
Terry:    I was working on a tape for you, I think you are going love it.
Rita:    A tape for me?
Terry:    It's a sort of the history of your time here. I wanted to save it to your retirment party, but now is as a good time as any.
Rita:    Oh, Terry.  This is so sweet. I'm not the kind of person who is usually speechless, but I don't know what to say.
Terry:    "Thank you" would be a good start.

    BOOK 12
Lesson 9 Rita is the kind of person who gives you everything she's got.

    SCENE ONE: THE EDITING ROOM
Steven:    Rita is the kind of person who gives you everything she's got.
Mike:    1960 was the year that I first met Rita. She was young and pretty and full of life. I never met anybody who was so enthusiastic about everything.
Chris:    I was introduced to Rita by a friend who knew her from a cooking class. Even though she was someone who was closer to my mother's age than mine (sorry Rita), I knew immediately that we would be good friends.
Steven:    I remember when I first met her. I thought, "Here's someone who knows what she's doing." She was the kind of makeup person who could handle the toughest problems.
Mike:    And people liked her so much, they told her everything.
Jake:    I remember before I even came to WEFL hearing about Rita. She was the kind of person who was a great listener. But she was also  known in those days as a great talker. If you wanted to know anything about anything, you talked to Rita.
Modine:    I only recently got to know Rita through my investigation at WEFL, she was the one person who nobody ever mentioned her as a possible suspect in the case.
Terry:    I just had to put him on the tape.
Rita:    That's great. I love it. There's no one else who would have done this for me, Terry. It means so much to me.
Terry:    Ready for more?
Steven:    What was it like to work with Rita? Rita is a person who takes any assignment and does more with it than you asked. Before I became producer, I was directing "Murderer at Midnight". Rita was not only the makeup artist, but she was also involved in the set design. If something didn't look right on the set, it was Rita who noticed. If an actress was giving me a hard time, it was Rita I spoke to.
Jake:    Rita was always a pleasure to work with. Uh, when I first came to the station, I was someone who cared a lot about how I looked when I was in front of the camera. Now that I look back, I probably cared more about how I looked than the story that I was working on. So the fact that I was always happy with the way that Rita made me looked says a lot of her talent as a makeup artist.
Mike:    As a camera man, I was also involved in the lighting. I've never met anyone who was more professional than Rita. I didn't have to spend hours changing the lighting to compensate for terrible makeup jobs. To be a great makeup artist, you have to able to work well with people. I've never met anyone who didn't like the time he or she spent in Rita's makeup chair.
Rita:    Terry, this is the best gift that anyone have even given me.
Terry:    There was no one else who I would have done this for. You're the only person who means that much to me.
Steven:    One word that says who Rita is? Oh, that's hard. Let's see…Dependable.
Chris:    Insightful.
Mike:    Talented.
Jake:    There isn't just one word that describe Rita. She is creative, kind, honest, professional, intelligent, and she's fun. I guess that's it. If I had to say only one word about Rita, I would say that she's someone who is fun. She's fun. That's who Rita is. She's a fun person.
Rita:    Pick out a pleasant outlook, stick out that noble chin. Wipe off that full-of-doubt look, slap on a happy grin. And spread sunshine all over the place. Just put on a happy face.

    BOOK 12
Lesson 10  When will the show be aired?

    SCENE ONE: THE OFFICE
Steven:    When do we start fishing?
Mike:    At six o'clock.
Steven:    In the morning?
Mike:    You got it. It should be a lot of fun. Come on, Steven. You need a break. Things have been very difficult at WEFL. I'm sure your wife will understand.
Steven:    I know. But the weekends are the only times I get to spend with Peter. You're right, though. It will just be one sunday out of a million.
Mike:    Right.
Steven:    What do I need?
Mike:    Luck, your fishing rod, and a picnic lunch are the only things that are required.
Steven:    A picnic lunch?
Mike:    Yes. We'll be out on the boat all day.
Steven:    Whose boat are we going out on?
Mike:    Actually, I'm not sure. I didn't make the reservation. It was made by someone who's going with us.
Steven:    So how do you know we're starting at six?
Mike:    My friend told me he made the reservation for six.
Steven:    Maybe the reservation should be made in my name. And maybe it should be made by seven.
Mike:    That's a good idea. The reservation can be made in your name. They know you're the producer here, and we may get a better boat. But you should make the reservatioin for six, Steven. By seven, the fish won't be hungry.
Steven:    All right, six o'clock.
Mike:    I'll give you a wake-up call.
Steven:    Right, thanks.

    SCENE TWO:THE "WEEKEND UPDATE" SET
Jake:    Hi.
Chris:    You're not going to believe it! Look at what I found at Town Hall.
Jake:    What is it?
Chris:    The deed to the property that Thomas Ames is building on. Read it.
Jake:    Let's see... The property was owned by someone else - the Maxwell family. Then it was sold to Thomas Ames. We knew that, Chris.
Chris:    Thomas Ames can  buy it, but he can't build on it…Look
Jake:    What are you talking about?
Chris:    Look. Right here... Any construction on that land must be approved.
Jake:    By whom?
Chris:    By the City of Stamford.
Jake:    I don't understand. He bought the property. I saw this deed at Thomas Ames's office.
Chris:    I saw it too, but this page was missing. Ames hid this page. Its says that nothing can be built on the property without approval from the town.
Jake:    The entire story has to be reedited.
Chris:    What was done by Roger, and what is left to do?
Jake:    The new interview has to be edited. I'll ask Terry to help.
Chris:    What's our deadline? When will the show be aired?
Jake:    I'm not sure. It may be aired tonight.
Chris:    That really doesn't give us that much time.

SCENE THREE: THE "HELLO AMERICA" SET
Jake:    The Stamford Nature Center is used by adults, by children, and by senior citizens. Now it's in danger. The Nature Center was built in 1936. The farm was established in 1945. It was created to preserve the original beauty and history of the small New England farm. A part of the Nature Center was sold to real-estate developer Thomas Ames. Ames has been planning build apartments on the land. Several weeks ago I spoke with Mr. Ames about his plans.
Thomas:    But let me tell you, Jake. These will be beautiful buildings. They will be built with the most morden materials.
Jake:    But, here is what Ames said in a recent interview with Chris Bloom of WEFL.
Thomas:    I'm tired of you reporters and your stupid questions. It's my land and I'll do what ever I want to with it, and I'm not going to change just because of a little pollution. Now get out!
Chris:    Do you care about the animals at the Nature Center?
Thomas:    I hate animals!... Get out, Ms. Bloom!
Jake:    Thomas Ames shouldn't be allowed to build at the Nature Center. The water will be polluted. The animals there could be killed. The farm could be ruined. But WEFL has recently discovered that Thomas Ames was lying about his deed. The deed of Thomas Ames's land prohibits building there without the permission of the City. Wheather to give that permisstion will be decided tomorrow. WEFL will keep you informed of all details involving this criticle issue.
