BOOK 12
Lesson 11 I tell you I'm going to have my hair cut once a month.
SCENE ONE: THE MAKEUP ROOM
Rita: I'm proud of you, Chris. You did a great job. Do you realize that because of your research, the Stamford Nature Center will probably be saved?
Chris: I just hope the right decision will be made. What do you want me to do with these?
Rita: Throw them away, I guess. I can't go on saving everything.
Chris: Look at those ladies in that beauty parlor. Can you imagine sitting there getting your hair cut and having your nails done? Who has the time? Who has the patience?
Rita: I do. At least now that I'm retiring, I have the time. I tell you, I'm going to have my hair cut once a month. I'm going to have my nails monicured once a week. I'm going to get my hair done once a week.
Chris: Really? You? I just can't imagine you sitting around leading that kind of life. I thought you'd be having adventures.
Rita: I have it all planed. Every Monday, I'm going to get my back massaged. On twesdays, I'm going to have my house cleaned. On Wednesdays, I'm going to have my nails done. On Thursdays, I'm going to get my hair done. And on Fridays , I'm going to relax.
Chris: That sounds like you've gotten your first week of retirement taking care of. What are you going to do after that?
Rita: There are so many things I've wanted to do, but I just havn't had the time. I havn't had my car serviced in over a year. I want to have my shoes repaired. I havn't had my eyes examined recently, and my watch's broken. I have to get it repaired. I can't remember when I last went to the dentist. I need to get my teeth cleaned and checked. And I want to get all my home movies put on to videotapes.
Chris: But what about after all that? You know, after you finish the errands?
Rita: That's the really exciting part. I ran into a man who now owns a jaint makeup company. He was talking about a new product. I was telling him what I know about making up older people. And he liked what I had to say. And get this! He hired me as a cunsultant.
Chris: You're kidding! But you're going from one job to another.
Rita: Not really. I don't have to go into the office regularly. I just have to have meetings every other week and give some ideas.
Chris: That's fantastic!
Rita: It really is.
Chris: Congratulations.
Rita: Thanks. Look at this dress. I wonder why I saved it.
Chris: I kind of like it.
Rita: Take it. You can have it, but you need to get it dry-cleaned. Where would you wear it?
Chris: Who knows. Maybe out on my next date with Ray.
Rita: Detective Modine?
Chris: Yeah. I have my first date with him last night.
Rita: And?
Chris: He's...interesting. And fun.
Rita: What about Jake?
Chris: I like Jake too.
Rita: Chris. I have some advice.
Chris: Yeah?
Rita: Stick with Jake.
