2 Where? On the table

The word कहाँ   kahan
means 'where?'
In order to say where something is, we need the words for 'on, in' and so on. Here's a little

पर par on, at
में men in
से se from, with, by
तक tak up to, until
को ko to (and other meanings)

And here are some phrases:
मेज़ पर
mez par on the table
कुर्सी पैर
kursipar on the chair
घर पैर ghar par at home

घर में
ghar mein   in the house
दिल्ली में
dili mein   in Delhi
भारत में
bharat   mein in India
आज तक
aj tak   until today

As you can see, the words पर  par,
में   mein etc. come after the noun.
Because of this they're called postpositions rather than prepositions.

Answer these questions, using the postposition में  'in'.
दिल्ली कहाँ है ?
dilli kahan hai?
काठमांडू कहाँ है ?
kathmadu kahan hai?

कराची कहाँ है ?
karachi kahan hai?
मुंबई कहाँ है ?
mumbaii kahan hai?
लंदन कहाँ है ?
landan kahan hai?
आप कहाँ हैं ?
ap kahan hain?

Your answers should be
दिल्ली भारत में हैं  
dilli bharat me hai
etc.;my answer to the last one is
मैं लंदन में हूँ ,
main landan mein hun.

At home, at school, at work

'पर  par usually means 'on', but it means 'at' in phrases like 'घर परpar 'at home'.
आज मनोज घर पर नहीं है .
aj Manoj ghar par nahin hai. Manoj isn't at home today.
राम स्कुल पर नहीं है .
Ram skia par nahin hai. Ram isn't at school.

मेरे दोस्त कम पर हैं .
mere dost kam par hain. My friends are at work.
शर्मा जी कम पर हैं .
Sharma ji kam par hain. Sharma ji is at work.
