自学印地语5：你想什么？

shankar: Please come [in], sir, what do you want?
raju: I need a room. Show me some decent room.
shankar:Very good. What kind of room do you want?
raju: I want a big room.
shankar: Very good. How many days do you want it for? For four days - that is, until Friday.
raju: for fore days -that is, until firday..
shankar: Very good. We have a very good room vacant from today unttl Fnday

raju: Is there a phone in the room? There needs to be a phone.
shankar: Yes, there is. It's a very good room. Such rooms are hard to find in this town.
raju: How much is the rent?
shankar: Only seven hundred rupees.
raju: Show me the room.
shankar: Very good, sir. Come, I'll show [you] the room.

(In this last line, Shankar's sentence‘ मैं कमरा दिखता हूँ  main kamra dikhata hun  shows how the present tense can refer to something just about to be done.)

All seems to be going fine so far, and Shankar is obviously eager to please. But it's when he shows Raju the room that the problems start.

Do you notice a change in tone in the way Raju addresses Shankar? (Look out for the pronouns.) But before we move on to the second part, some more new words:

ऊपर upar up, upstairs
दरवाज़ा darvaza m. Door
खोलना kholna to open
करवाना karvina to get done, caused to be done (by someone else)
कम करना kam kama to work,to function
चालू : chala kama to tum  on, make work

घूमना ghamna to tum, revolve
lलेत air f. electricity, electrical power
बिजली bijli f. Electricity
शुभ shubh good, auspicious(mainly used in the formula
शुभ नाम subh nam 'good name')
कोई दूसरा koi diisra another, some other one

The encounter continues:

शंकर: इए जी .
राजू: यह कमरा साफ़ नहीं है.
शंकर:बहुत अच्छा साहब ,मई कमरा अभी सर करवाता हूँ.
राजू: क्या यह पुरानना पंखा कम करता है?
शंकर: जी हाँ, पंखा कम करते है. बहुत अच्छा पंखा है. आजकल ऐसे पंखे नहीं मिलते है.
राजू: चालू करो.
शंकर:बहुत अच्छा साहब.
(शकर स्विक को ऍम करता है लेकिन पंखा घूमता ननहीं .)
राजू :पंखा घूमता नहीं.
शंकर :जी हाँ, क्यिकी लिए नहीं है.---बिजली नहीं है.
राजू:तुम्हारा नाम क्या है?
शंकर : जी ,मुझको शंकर कहते हैं. औं आपके शु भ नाम?
राजू: मेरे नाम शर्मा है. श्री राज्कुको आपके बहुत पसंद है.
राजू: शंकरम तुम बहुत अच्छा म्बहुत कहते हो,लेकिन यह कमरा बहुत अच्छा नहीं है,मुजको पसंद नहींहै..कोई दूसरा कमरा दिखाओ.
शंकर;बहुत अच्छा शर्मा जी,एयर.

shankar: aie ji.
raju: yah kamra saf nam hai.
shankar: bahut accha sahab. mai kamra abhi saf karvata hai.
raju: kya yah purana pankha kam karta hai?
shankar: ji han, pankha kam karta hai. bahut accha pankha hai.
  ajkal aise pankhe nahi milte hai.

raju: chalu karo.
shankar: bahut acca sahab.
(Shankar svie ko 'an' karta hai [turns on the switch] lekin pankha ghiimta nahon)
