Former Presidents Clinton, Bush in Thailand to Assess Post-Tsunami Needs George H. W. Bush, center, and Bill Clinton, third left, tour rebuilding efforts in Ban Nam Khem village in Pang-nga province, southern Thailand Former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush arrived on Thailand's Phuket Island Saturday - the first stop on their tour of regions devastated by December's tsunami. The envoys say they hope to combat donor fatigue so rebuilding can continue. Former presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush began their four-nation tour of tsunami-affected areas on Thailand's Phuket Island, Saturday. The December 26 Tsunami killed almost 290,000 people in nations rimming the Indian Ocean. Thailand lost 5,400, with 3,000 people still missing and presumed dead. Mr. Clinton, speaking on his arrival above the drone of airplane engines, said he and Mr. Bush want to assess what is still needed. "I just want to see what's being done, thank people, see what else we can do," Mr.Clinton said. Public and private donors have pledged some $5 billion in tsunami relief - with almost $1 billion of that from the United States. Last month, President Bush appointed his father, George H.W. Bush, and his predecessor in the White House, Bill Clinton, to head up the American relief efforts. It is hoped their stature will keep donor fatigue from setting in before Indian Ocean nations have recovered. Sunday, the former presidents will visit Indonesia's Aceh Province - the most devastated area closest to the earthquake, which sparked the tsunami. Early Saturday, a powerful earthquake hit parts of Indonesia's Sulawesi Island causing panic but no reports of casualties or wave surges.

Jack Welch --- Straight From the Gut Getting Closer To the Big Leagues Swimming in a Bigger PondThe RCA Deal While we have a system, with its binders and clear-cut agendas, it is by no means static. Other than the agendas, carefully pre-pared in advance, there's nothing neat and pretty about the way the people review process plays out. No matter what we put in our books--and we put everything in them it's not simply the binders that count. What counts is the passion and intensity everyone brings to the table. When managers put their necks on the line for their direct reports, you learn as much about them as the people you're discussing. Sometimes we can debate for an hour over one page. Why are these sessions so intense? One word: differentiation. In manufacturing, we try to stamp out variance. With people, variance is everything.

Execution--The Discipline of Getting Things Done The People Process: The Strategy Process: Making the Link with How to Conduct a Strategy Review What new people have competitors added that could alter the competitive landscape? Ford and Chrysler, for example, should be taking a very careful look at what the appointment of Bob Lutz as vice chairman of General Motors signifies. GM has been making steady progress in reducing costs since Rick Wagoner became president and then CEO. Now, by reaching out and bringing in the car world's best product developer, GM has taken a big step in its quest to regain market share. Lutz is not only the flamboyant "car guy" with a great understanding of consumer needs, but a cost-conscious team player. His track record at both Ford and Chrysler in designing and developing new products with shorter development cycles is unparalleled. An effective analysis of the competition at every auto company will demand the team's intellectually honest view of what the addition of Lutz means for each company individually and the industry as a whole.

Common Sense on Mutual Funds Size--present and potential--is a highly important concern. Excessive size can, and probably will, kill any possibility of investment excellence. The record is clear that, for the overwhelming majority of funds, the best years come when they are small. Small was beautiful, but "nothing fails like success." When these funds caught the public fancy--or, more likely, were vigorously hawked to a public that was unaware of its potential exposure to the problems of size--their best years were behind them. As I'll explain in Chapter 12, unbridled asset growth in a fund should be a warning flag to intelligent investors.

Rich dad, poor dad
They don't even know that the trouble is really how they choose to spend the money they do have, and that is the real cause of their financial struggle. It is caused by financial illiteracy and not understanding the difference between an asset and a liability. More money seldom solves someone's money problems. Intelligence solves problems, There is a saying a friend of mine says over and over to people in debt. "If you find you have dug yourself into a hole... stop digging." The poor and middle class all loo often allow the power of money to control them. By simply getting up and working harder, failing to ask themselves if what they do makes sense, they shoot themselves in the foot as they leave for work every morning. By not fully understanding money, the vast majority of people allow the awesome power of money to control them. The power of money is used against them.

Who Moved My Cheese? : “As it turned out, he fell in love with the Vermont mountains, took up skiing, skied on his college team and now lives happily in Colorado.” “If we had all enjoyed this Cheese story together, over a cup of hot chocolate, we could have saved our family a lot of stress.” Jessica said, “I’m going home to tell my family this story. I’ll ask my children who they think I am--Sniff, Scurry, Hem or Haw-and who they feel they are. We could talk about what we feel our family’s Old Cheese is and what our New Cheese could be.”Frank then commented, I think I’m going to be more like Haw and move with the Cheese and enjoy it! And I’m going to pass this story along to my friends who are worried about leaving the military and what the change might mean to them. It could lead to some interesting discussions.”

The Buffettology
During the bull market of the 1960s Warren sold out near the top of the market three years before the crash of 1973-74. And during the bull market of the 1990s he sold huge positions in 1999, a year before the crash of 2000 and the bear market of 2001. He used the 1973-74 bear market as a buying opportunity, likening himself to a sex-starved man who suddenly awakens to find himself in a harem, buying huge positions in several companies including the Washington Post, American Broadcasting Companies, Knight Ridder Newspapers, and Ogilvy & Mather. During the bear market of 2000-2002, Berkshire invested in such companies as Yum and H&R Block. For Warren, the secret is to be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful. Bear markets offer the buying opportunity, while bull markets vindicate his bear market investments with big profits.A bull market comes into being after an economic recession and a resulting bear market have devastated stock prices. During a bear market it is nothing to find stocks like Coca-Cola, Intel, and GE trading with P/E ratios in the single digits or low teens (contrast that situation with a bull market P/E of 30 or better for those same companies). In 2001 the Federal Reserve Bank repeatedly dropped interest rates to help stimulate the economy, thus making stocks more attractive.

she chances of that happening now are much lower. As of July 2002, the SEC requires funds to have at least 80 percent of their assets in the securities that their fund name implies, up from 65 percent previously. More than five hundred funds, in fact, had to change their names because they failed the 80 percent rule. Invesco’s Blue Chip Growth Fund, for example, is now called just Growth Fund, since 60 percent of its holdings are in technology stocks, and many of those can hardly be called blue chips these days. Still, in mutual funds, a rose isn’t always a rose. One of the collapsed Heartland funds called itself the Heartland Short Duration High-Yield Municipal Bond Fund.

was a way for employees to save their money----with tax advantages and contributions from Enron. Employees could set up automatic deductions of up to 15 percent of their salary. For amounts up to 4 percent of salary (it was 6 percent for newer employees), Enron would and funds to the account equal to 50 percent of that 4 percent amount. For the amounts contributed by the employee, there were nineteen investment options besides ENE stock, though only the Enron contributions were locked up in the ENE stock fund. In 2001, Enron had decided to change plan administrators―a process that caused the blackout period. The blackout lasted only ten trading days--from October 29 to November 12--

Communicate for Results(以下斜体字部分为测试题及答案)
Good morning, Bruce. Sit down. This will only take a minute. We need to improve the situation with the deliveries from our main materials supplier―it’s impacting on the whole business. I’m giving you sole responsibility for resolving this issue. I know it won’t be easy, but something needs to be done, and done now.
