Susan: Are you going to take the job in Denver?
John: I don't know.
Susan: Don't go.
John: I can't decide.
    First I want to go.
    Then I don't.

    but I want the job.
    I'm unhappy at WEFL, Susan.

John: When you leave the station,
    go to the third traffic light and then make a right on Gilpin.
Susan: How do you spell that?
John: G-i-l-p-i-n.
    Then follow the sings to the Stamford Mall.
Susan: How far is it?
John: It's two miles from the station.
Susan: OK. Thanks.
John: Great.
Susan: See you later.
    And don't smoke.
John: Right.
Mike: Linda. What's happening?
Linda: I'm nervous about the advertising for the show.
    I hope it works.
Mike: Come in.
    Would you like to sit down?
Linda: No. I have a lot to do.
Mike: Linda. Sit down.
    Would you like to talk about it?
Linda: No. OK.
    I'm nervous about "The Weekend Report. "
Mike: Don't worry.
    You have a good show.
Linda: Do you think so?

Susan: Hi, Linda.
    What are you doing?
Linda: I can't find my lipstick.
    I'm looking for some lipstick.
Susan: I have to find my purse.
    Where's Rita?
Linda: Rita's sick.
    She has the flu.
Susan: I'm sorry to hear that.
Linda: Yes, it's too had, isn't it?
    Her doctor says she has to rest and take medicine twice a day.
Susan: Does she have to stay in bed?
Linda: Yes. And she has to drink a lot of water.
Susan: When can she come back to work?
Linda: She has to see her doctor first.

  That's the problem.
  Should I go to Denver?
Susan: You should do what's best for you .

    the President is in Europe.
  The weather for today is clear and cool.
    You don't need your umbrella or raincoat.
  And it's a beautiful day for sailing.
    And now "The Weekend Report" with Susan Webster and Jake Seltzer.

Susan: Hello, John.
  We're sailing today at the Stamford Marina.
  There's a big race out here.
Jake: Yes. There are races all weekend.
John: Jake, can you sail?
Jake: I can't sail very well.

Clerk: Yes.
   I have those.
Carol: Are they ripe?

Carol: These look good.
    Do you have any grapes?

   We have some nice strawberries.

   I don't need any strawberries.
    Where's the cauliflower?
Clerk: Oh, it's next to the lettuce.

Carol: Hi. What are you doing here?
Steven: I'm shopping.
Carol: Do you usually shop here?
Steven: No. I'm on my way home.
   My sister lives around the corner.
Carol: Your shopping cart is almost empty.
   Is that all you're buying--
   some milk, some ice cream, and some cookies?
Steven: I don't cook much.
   The life of a single man.
Carol: I know what you mean.
Steven: At least there's work.
Carol: To tell you the truth, Steven,
   I'm not really happy at work right now.
Steven: What's wrong?
Carol: It isn't very interesting.
Steven: I'm sorry you're not happy.
   If I can help, let me know.
Carol: Thank you, Steven.
   That's nice.
Steven: Sure.
   And now I have a very important question to ask you.
Carol: What?

SCENE ONE: THE SUPERMARKET
John: What's wrong?
Susan: I can't find my list.
John: Do you need the list?
Susan: Yes, I do.
  I can't remember everything on it.
John: You seem upset today, Susan.
Susan: Oh, here's the list.
John: OK. Where to first?
Susan: Aisle six.
  I need two boxes of cereal,
  one loaf of bread,
  a can of tomato paste,
    a dozen eggs,
  and two pounds of meat.
John: Here's the produce section.
  Do you need any fruit or vegetables?
Susan: Yes. I need some vegetables.

Susan: This isn't fresh.
  Don't you have any fresh lettuce?
Produce Clerk: How about this?
  This is a nice head of lettuce.
Susan: It's OK.
  Thank you.
John: Do you need anything else?
Susan: I need some tomatoes.
John: How many tomatoes do you need?
Susan: Twelve.
John: That's a lot of tomatoes .
  What are you making?
Susan: It's surprise . . .
  Excuse me?
  Look at these.
  They're too ripe.

Clerk: I have those.

Clerk: Three dollars a pound.

Clerk: I can get some from the back.

John: These apples look delicious.
Susan: They look OK.

  Are you upset about my trip tomorrow?
Susan: I want to make you a great dinner before you leave for Denver.
John: It doesn't have to be a big deal.
  I'm just going for two days.

Clerk: Your mushrooms miss.

  I didn't know that.
John: Yes, it's true.
  I can cook dinner in no time.

John: How do you like it?

John: Do you have any?
Susan: Here it is.
John: Now how does it taste?
Susan: Good. It just needs some salt.
John: Salt. OK.
Susan: John, it's delicious.
    It really is.

John: Maybe you're right.
Susan: What kind of spaghetti sauce is this?
John: Sausage.
Susan: I know what's missing.

John: I wasn't sure if I should take the job.
Susan: So was the weather nice in Denver?

John: Yes. They were very friendly.
